David Wheeler believes in God, the Constitution, and putting the people of Mitchell County first. With 40 years of experience working for himself and building organizations from the ground up, including leading major operations on all seven continents and in more than 50 countries, David brings the kind of real-world leadership few candidates ever offer.

He has run companies with hundreds of employees and others with just a dozen, managing budgets as large as $500 million and as lean as $500,000 for a startup.

A strong supporter of the Second Amendment, David will protect our rights while helping seniors through free legal clinics and working to bring a Mitchell County law clinic right here to serve local families.

He’ll bring all of that experience to bear and make the Mitchell County Clerk of Court’s office the best-run in North Carolina and backed by faith, hard work, and a “do the job right” attitude every single day.

Eye-level view of a mountain landscape with a clear blue sky

In One Sentence:

I’m running to make the Clerk’s office a place where faith, fairness, integrity, and hard work guide everything we do.

My Core Principles

  • Faith in God

  • Service to Our People

  • Honesty in Every Decision

  • Respect for Every Citizen

  • Accountability in Public Service

These aren’t talking points — they’re values I’ve lived my whole life.

1. Fairness - Not Politics.

Mitchell County deserves a Clerk who treats everyone fairly and follows the law, not politics, favoritism, or courthouse games.

I will:

  • Enforce equal treatment for every citizen

  • Bring transparency to how decisions are made

  • Ensure consistent, respectful customer service

  • Keep politics out of the Clerk’s office

  • Uphold the Constitution and the rule of law every day

Because justice must be fair and is not dependent on who you know.

2. Put Faith, Community, and Service First

This office touches people’s lives in some of their most difficult moments, including estates, guardianships, adoptions, mental health filings. My leadership will be guided by:

  • Faith in God

  • Compassion for families

  • Respect for every person who walks through the door

  • A commitment to being a steady, calm presence when people need help

Public service is a calling, not a position.

3. Protect Taxpayers With Efficient, Honest Management

The Clerk’s office must run on time, on budget, and with zero waste. I will:

  • Cut red tape and unnecessary delays

  • Modernize filing and record access

  • Bring business-style efficiency from 30 years of real-world leadership

  • Improve scheduling, wait times, and responsiveness

  • Ensure every dollar is used wisely and transparently

Good management saves money and builds trust.

4. Support Law Enforcement & the Justice System

Our courts must function smoothly to keep our county safe. I will:

  • Strengthen coordination with the Sheriff, judges, and prosecutors

  • Ensure juror summons, court cases, and schedules are handled accurately

  • Maintain secure, reliable handling of all court records

  • Prevent administrative mistakes that slow down justice

A well-run Clerk’s office helps keep law and order strong.

5. Fairness for Families, Seniors & Vulnerable Citizens

Many people come to the Clerk’s office during stressful life events. I will:

  • Treat every person with dignity

  • Improve support for guardianships, adoptions, and family matters

  • Protect vulnerable adults in estate and guardianship cases

  • Ensure seniors and families receive clear guidance and respect

Compassion and professionalism should define this office. Every day.

6. Accessibility, Communication & Local Accountability

Mitchell County deserves a Clerk who is present, reachable, and responsive. I will:

  • Keep the office accessible to all citizens

  • Provide clear information about forms, deadlines, and requirements

  • Hold regular community office hours

  • Post transparent updates online

  • Be accountable directly to the people

This office works for you and you should always feel it.

7. A Clerk Who Works Full-Time for the People for 2 Terms — Not for Raleigh or Political Party Bosses

I will serve full-time, with full commitment. No outside agendas. No courthouse favoritism. No political games. I'll serve 2 terms and then give someone else a chance.

Just honest work, done right. Every single day.
